7-Year Sentence for Ex-DC Cop in Decades-Old Teen Abuse Case

A former Metropolitan Police officer was sentenced to over 7 years in prison for abusing a then 15-year-old girl between 2005 and 2006, announced U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves.

Lucius Kearney, 52, was found guilty by a Superior Court jury of one count of first-degree sexual abuse of a child on September 27, 2024.
According to the government’s trial evidence, the tenth-grade victim met Kearney, then a Fourth District Metropolitan Police Department officer, while doing a school project in 2005.

Though their early correspondence regarded the school project, the conversations turned sexual over time. After the high schooler completed the community service hours required by her high school at a D.C. public library, Kearny and the victim had sexual relations in his truck.
After the victim ran into the officer years later patrolling her neighborhood in 2020, she reported the abuse.
