Social Security SSDI December 2024 Payments: First Round Issued on December 11
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that the next SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) payment will be made on December 11, 2024. While some recipients received their payments on December 3, this was due to either their SSDI benefits starting before May 1997 or because they also qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
SSDI Payment on December 11, 2024
To receive the SSDI payment on December 11, 2024, you must have been born between the 1st and 10th of any month. If you qualify for SSI or began receiving benefits before May 1997, you will not receive the SSDI payment on this date.
Those born between the 11th and 20th of any month will receive their SSDI benefits on December 18, 2024. Both the December 11 and December 18 payments will be issued on Wednesdays.
SSDI Payments in December 2024
The final SSDI payment for December will not be issued on the fourth Wednesday, December 25, as this is Christmas Day, a federal holiday. This means the last SSDI payment for December will be made on December 18 for those with birthdays between the 11th and 20th.
SSDI Payment Amounts
Your SSDI payment amount depends on your work history and the taxes you have paid into the Social Security system. On average, SSDI recipients will receive about $1,542 in December 2024, according to the SSA’s Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) fact sheet.
For those who were high earners and paid the maximum amount of taxable earnings for 35 years, the maximum possible SSDI payment could be up to $3,822, but this is very rare.
No COLA Increase for December Payments
It’s important to note that the December SSDI payments will not include the 2025 COLA increase. Eligible recipients will see their updated payments, reflecting the COLA increase, starting in January 2025. These new payments will be issued on January 3, 8, 15, or 22.
Make sure to check your SSDI payment schedule and confirm your eligibility to ensure timely receipt of your benefits.
