AG Bob Ferguson Sued for COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate Firings: Legal Battle Over Workers’ Rights
Washington Governor-elect and current Attorney General Bob Ferguson is facing a lawsuit over his office’s vaccine mandate during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Silent Majority Foundation (SMF) has filed the suit on behalf of 10 women who were terminated from the Washington State Office of the Attorney General for refusing to comply with the vaccine requirement.
The lawsuit names Ferguson, the Attorney General’s Office, and other executive-level employees as defendants. According to SMF General Counsel Pete Serrano, the plaintiffs are seeking damages, including back pay and front pay.
“Some of these women had dedicated 17 to 20 years of service and were on the verge of retirement when they were let go,” Serrano told The Jason Rantz Show on KTTH.
Serrano views the case as a critical opportunity to challenge government overreach.
“The courts have traditionally supported gubernatorial emergency powers,” Serrano noted. “But those laws don’t extend to other executive agencies, and this case could set an important precedent.”
Despite Washington’s traditionally left-leaning judiciary, Serrano remains optimistic about the lawsuit’s prospects.
“We’re starting to see a subtle shift,” Serrano explained. “Some judges seem more willing to consider whether individuals’ rights were violated. I believe this case has the potential to succeed.”
The plaintiffs’ claims add to ongoing debates about the limits of government authority and individual rights during public health emergencies. The outcome of this case could influence similar legal challenges in the future.
